It seems that as the more years pass by, we become more and more appreciative of the past years that we have experienced. Since the last day of the year is always spent reminiscing on the different events that occurred in the past year, let’s take a look at the 5 ways that the ’90s took over the world of Pop Culture this year (extra cheese will be included in this post, after-all this is a 90s blog).
5. Vanilla Ice Re-Incarnated
Equipped with the baggy pants, boasted ego and anti-shirt philosophy, Justin Bieber brought back the flavor of “Ice Ice Baby” to 2013. Just delete the “Ice” and add two more “Baby’s” and voila: A newer, younger and frankly even more ridiculous Vanilla Ice has been released to this new generation.
4. Britney 2.0
2013 was a big year for pop legend Britney Spears. It saw her return to the stage in her all-new Las Vegas residency show “Britney: Piece Of Me” and it was truly a sight to see. She was dancing amazingly again, her body was in top shape and she even brought back some of her most famous performance outfits to show the world that she’s still got it.
3. The Return of the Dance Crazes
Anybody who was alive in the year 1997 can tell you what the “Macarena” is and I’m also positive that they can show you the dance as well. It’s been a while since a dance has been deemed good enough to make a universal impact like that, however the past year has shown us that it is still possible to take over the world with a ridiculous (yet fun) dance. Alas, this year brings us two new additions to the dance craze collection: The “Gangnam Style” and The “Dougie”. One is a korean pop song that 98% of people singing it don’t understand a word, while the other is a song about teaching someone how to “Dougie”. How could these two songs create such an influence? Don’t ask me. Also, don’t ask me about what the fox says because that dance was just too annoying to put on this list… (Ring-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-dading)
2. Love-letters in 140 Characters
Remember the days without cell phones, and people poured their hearts out on paper? Well, the 2013 version of that has emerged: Twitter! Yes, I know “Twitter” has been around for a while now, but this year, people explored the social media website for more than just posting a picture of their food. Behold, ladies and gentlemen the 2013 Love Letter!

1. *NSYNC ARE BACK! (For 2 Minutes)
It was the most-anticipated event of the 2013 VMA’s. ’90s Boy Band *NSYNC were set to reunite on stage to pay tribute to their lead-singer Justin Timberlake receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Let’s not get it twisted, we weren’t expecting them to be anywhere nearly as good as they used to be, however it was still nice to see them perform again. However, I think it’s safe to say that the Reunion Tour is out of the question.
And there you have it! It’s hard to believe that the year passed by so quickly, but we can only hope that 2014 brings us some of the amazing memories that have been created for the Pop Culture world in 2013. One thing is for sure, I’m pretty sure that it’ll be hard to top this one.
